For having loved and lost, you are a richer person.
사랑하고 이별해 보았으므로 당신은 더 부자이다.

For one man who sincerely who pities our misfortunes,

there are a thousand who sincerely hate our success.
우리들의 불행을 마음속 깊이 애통해 주는 사람은 단 하나뿐이지만,

우리들의 성공을 마음속 깊이 시기하는 사람은 몇 천명이나 있다.

For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love.
우리들이 작은 창조물로서 그 광대함은 오직 사랑을 통해서만 견딜 수 있는 것이다.

For table-talk, I prefer the pleasant and witty before the learned and the grave,

in bed, beauty before goodness.
식탁에서 나누는 잡담의 상대는 학식있고 근엄하며 성실한 사람보다는 유쾌하고 익살스러운 사람이 좋다.

또한 잠자리에서는 마음 착한 여자보다는 예쁜 여자가 좋다.
